Columbia Records

Columbia Records is a subsidiary of the bigger label and previously mentioned Sony Music Entertainment. Founded in 1887 evolving from the American Gramophone Company. It is the oldest surviving name in the record sounded business. In 1988, Sony purchased the rights to Columbia Records has been the owner ever since.

Originally specialising in sound, Columbia worked with brands like Philips. Signing huge folk artists like Bob Dylan in the 60's and then other artists like Barbra Streisand, Johnny Cash and Pink Floyd. In the 80's, Sony acquired the company and in the 90's it was partnered to form Columbia/Epic Label Group, it's sister group. In July 2011, this partnership ended.

For our group, Columbia may not be the best, it's style is mainly modern apart from Bob Dylan who's style is not what we were looking for. The modern artists are also almost too modern for us due to their beats and tempos etc.
