III. telegraph ave. ("Oakland" by Lloyd)

First few shots in the jeep when playing from the radio set the tone.

This shot is when the song changes from diegetic to non diegetic.

Continuous shots of the island and natural experinces help keep the mood of the song.

These shots also support the strength of their relationship.

The final shot is very unexpected and shows him having transformed into an alien like creature. Which is an ongoing theory with his other videos.
"III. Telegraph Ave. ("Oakland" by Lloyd)" is a track that's part of Childish Gambino's 2013 album 'Because the internet'. The video is a lot different to what the title would suggest. Telegraph Avenue is a street that begins, at its southernmost point, in the midst of the historic downtown district of Oakland, California, United States, and ends, at its northernmost point.

With over 21 million views, the song is very well respected and so is the video. Featuring fellow star Jhene Aiko, they can be seen to be travelling across a tropical island enjoying each others company as well as the natural habitat and experiences. With an orignal contrast between the title and video, this isn't the only unexpected occurence in the video....
Camera
-
A whole range of camera shots are used in the video. Ranging from close ups to medium to birds eye view. A range is put in place to show the various landscapes and and nature of the relationship in the narrative.

Editing
-
The video mainly consists of cuts to match the tempo of the song with very limited variation.
-
However special effects are incorporated at the end when childish gambino seemed to have transformed into part alien part human. This is the unexpected part but is originally part of a link between other videos from the album.

Sound
The sound starts off as diegetic as the sound can be seen to come from a radio as the song is announced and then played. This lasts for around 20 seconds and then the song becomes non diegetic when it drops like a typical music video.

Mise En Scene
-
The lighting is usually portrayed as very natural to link and relate to the island and natural feel it gives off.
-
The costumes of the characters also support the tropical island feel with Childish Gambino wearing a hawaiian shirt and Jhene Aiko also wearing very summery themed clothes.
-
Props aren't really present apart from the Jeep they drive.
