Blues

Blues is a form of jazz that was created in the 'Deep South' of the USA by predominantly African Americans. However it was also developed from European folk music. It mainly features in Jazz but also features in Rock and Roll and Rhythm and Blues.

The blues repetitive rhythm is known as the 'groove'. Blues has a lot of meaning and heritage and the early blues often related to the troubles experienced in African American society. It then started to take a look at the newly found freedom after slavery. This is the first sort of meaning we can easily see and understand due to us studying it in History etc.

Popular artists that feature blues elements include;

  • Aloe Blacc (Rhythm and Blues)

  • Eric Clapton (Rock and Roll)

  • BB King (Blues)

  • Jimi Hendrix (Rock and Roll)

  • Bob Dylan (Rock and Roll)

Blues is muc more attractive to us than both african and asian genres. However, the culture is very specific and could be very hard to achieve. However, many inspirational legends such as Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan were frequent users so using one of their songs may be an idea.
